Hi, urgh urgh urgh, we didn't get any rain yesterday - oh POOKIES!! Instead we got an exceptionally humid, sticky, cloudy day - then the blasted sun emerged late afternoon - ack! Giggle...
Ahem, that aside we went off into Nelson at 11.30am and didn't get home until 4pm - crikey I have to say I was a little concerned about Chester but he was just fine, bless his heart (he was at home). We shared a delicious mushroom, tomato and salsa verde bruschetta at one of our favourite cafes for lunch and then stopped at the farmers' market which is held every Wednesday. Here were those peaches I told you about ''Scarlet O'Hara'', this time in a crate though not a big bin. Don't they look gorgeous?? Next to them are Gravenstein apples, which we hardly ever see here these days!
There is a definite move towards growing a lot more heritage fruit here in New Zealand, particularly in the home garden. That's the one thing that, as a gardener, frustrates me a little about New Zealand being such a young country. We don't have a lot of gardening history the way Europe and the UK does. I dream of being able to get lots of different types of heritage potatoes etc too... deep wishing sigh! Giggle..
Today I am hoping to get some more gardening done but it is going to be another hot day I fear. When I stepped out of bed this morning I realised there is something sharp in the heel of my foot so I sort of hobbled walking the dog this morning. John had a quick look before he left for work but didn't have time to get whatever it is, out. I tried but my leg extension is so bad I couldn't really see what the heck I was doing! Most frustrating. OOh I bought some zucchini seed yesterday so I'm going to sow three close together in the glasshouse, just as an experiment. It's a bit late really but I'm sure it is going to work! Ok, I'm off to get a cup of much needed tea! Smiles..
