Hi, oh brother I'm so sorry it's been so long since I've posted. So much has been going on with a horrible drought this past summer, severe water restrictions, the Nelson fires and so much to do in my nursery etc. Add paperwork coming out of my ears and you have a proverbial nightmare!
Add to that I had to completely reset my computer a few weeks ago so I lost my password for this blog and had trouble managing to reset it until today!
We had around 72mm of rain in March and so far this month we've only managed around 20mm so things are looking fairly serious again when it comes to lack of soil moisture. We are getting fairly heavy dews thankfully but any rain that falls simply isn't penetrating much past 1/8 of an inch into my soil. I weeded the kitchen garden yesterday and had to have the hose pouring onto the areas I weeded for a long time before the soil looked evenly damp. I added sheep manure pellets at the same time and then rich, dark compost. I'm hoping to be able to get some crops into the ground for winter over Easter. If not, the soil temperature will be too cold for them to become established properly. All in all it's been a gnarly start to the year crop-wise - my summer crops were non-existent due to the drought. I at least have some gorgeous snow peas germinating and growing well in a grow bag on the verandah.
Ballet is going really well and I'm doing more pointe work - just basic work at the barre and it will be a long! time before I'll be doing any centre work, but I absolutely adore it. I can't tell you how it feels.. it's slightly uncomfortable on the toes but it's empowering at the same time! Very hard to describe the feeling. We are doing more advanced centre work which is challenging but I'm loving every second of it.
Well I'd better get to work.. Lots of seeds to pack up for orders and a mega-load of perennials to sow/pot up. Smiles...
